During the week of September 1-5, the Lincoln Seminar class ventured out to our local college, Knox. Dr. Rod Davis, a nationally known Lincoln scholar, talked to us about his Lincoln research. He told us about how he and his colleague, Dr. Doug Wilson, went to the Library of Congress to study and research the letters collected by Lincoln's law partner, William Herndon. Dr. Davis showed us photocopies of the letters. They used these letters to write the instant classic, Herndon's Informants.
Another aspect of our adventure was a visit to Knox College Library where we saw one of the nation's most exquisite Lincoln book collections. This is where many of us also got to touch the face of history. By history, we mean we got to touch a life mask of Lincoln's face--the Lincoln who changed our nation forever.
We closed our adventure with having a delicious lunch at the friendly Gizmo.

Galesburg is, indeed, fortunate to have such distinguished scholars in our community.
